The research focuses on a static and dynamic assessment of the demographic situation in the municipalities of the Russian Arctic from 2011 year until 2016 year. The system of indicators that allow to assesse the change in demographic trends was designed for in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation. Based on assessment the authors identified four main zones that characterize the demographic situation of the municipalities of the Russian Arctic: the zone of leaders, delayed development zone, the development zone, the zone with high risk. The distribution of Arctic municipalities in these zones is graphically presented. It will be a basis for elaboration of different kinds of measures to develop the demographic potential of the Arctic macroregion.
