Domestic tourism: research of preferences residents in the northern territories

The article substantiates the importance of domestic tourism for the socio-economic development of the northern territories of Russia based on the analysis of strategic planning documents, publications of Russian and foreign authors. On the example of the Arkhangelsk region, which is the largest subject of the Russian Federation in the north of the European part of Russia and has rich natural resources and cultural and historical heritage, the analysis of statistical data characterizing the current state of tourism in the region is carried out. The constraints on the development of inbound and domestic tourism are indicated: harsh climatic conditions, imperfect transport infrastructure, high prices for tourist products, insufficient state support for the industry, lack of qualified personnel, low public awareness of tourist facilities. The results of marketing research of consumer preferences of residents of the Arkhangelsk region in relation to travel through the territory of their native land are presented. The aim of the study was to find out the attitude of inhabitants to traveling through the territory of the native region. The authors developed a questionnaire, conducted a survey, processed the data and analyzed the results of the study. In the process of analyzing the data obtained, psychographic segmentation of respondents on the basis of generations was carried out, which allowed to reveal motives of behavior and preference of consumers of tourist services with the same values, attitudes, historical experience. The study revealed that the majority of respondents travel through the territory of the Arkhangelsk region mainly for cultural and educational purposes, for active recreation, participation in events. They prefer to organize their holidays on their own, to travel in the summer, on own car, with the husband/wife or friends, stopping in guest houses and hotels. The most popular sights to visit in the near future are the Solovetsky Islands and Kenozersky National Park.
