Assessment of resource efficiency of the forest complex of the Republic of Komi: state and prospects

In the presented work “Assessment of the resource efficiency of the forest complex of the Komi Republic: state and prospects”, measurements of the efficiency of the use of wood resources in the regional forest complex are performed. Increasing the efficiency of wood processing is an important direction in slowing down the depletion of wood resources, capable of balancing the decrease in the value of forests, limiting the negative impact on pollution, reducing forest reserves and biodiversity by improving the quality of the product structure of the output. The increase in the efficiency of the use of resources will allow us to move from the export of raw materials to an innovative development model. Given the specifics of the functioning of the forest complex of the Komi Republic, the possibilities and limitations of the use of the studied methods and indicators, the availability of statistical data, the resource efficiency assessment tools are used, based on the calculation of integral and private indicators. The calculations were performed for the pulp and paper, woodworking industry and the forest complex as a whole, as well as municipal areas. The measurement of the efficiency of the use of wood resources in the forestry complex of the Komi Republic was made by calculating and comparing with the foreign level of revenue per cubic meter. m of wood, output with 1000 cubic meters. m and shares in the commodity structure of paper products with high added value. The calculation results made it possible to understand at what level of resource efficiency the sectors of the Forestry Complex of the region function and compare their results with the countries that have achieved success in the efficient use of wood. As a result, a steady increase in the efficiency of wood use was revealed throughout the entire studied period. Despite the positive dynamics, the lag of regional indicators of resource efficiency for 2013–2016. from the leading forest countries of Europe increased from 1.7–1.8 times to 2 times: from Sweden for woodworking, from Finland – for the pulp and paper industry. Directions are proposed to ensure a reduction in the resource efficiency lag of the forest complex of the Komi Republic: increasing the share of high value-added products in the sectoral structure; growth in wood waste processing; increased output of finished products. The data obtained are of great practical importance for assessing and managing the resource efficiency of the forest complex of the republic and Russia.
