Poverty of the population and its impact on the economic availability of food

Abstract. The high level of poverty of the population, especially rural, of our country forces a significant part of it to refuse to buy high-quality food, many necessary types of consumer goods and services. The purpose of the article is the influence of high income differentiation of the population on the economic availability of food. The theoretical and methodological basis of the study was the works of scientists on the problems of rural poverty. The work is based on the use of methods of systematic, analytical and comparative analysis, analogies, generalization of accumulated experience. Statistical information was provided by the data of the federal and regional state statistics services. The state of poverty is considered. It is shown that rural poverty is characteristic of all countries, Each of which, taking into account its own characteristics, solves the problem of poverty. A comparative analysis of the world and domestic poverty of the population is given. It is established that in Russia the level of poverty of the population is significantly higher compared to some countries of the world. The dynamics of changes in the poverty of the population over a 25-year period in extreme natural living conditions is shown. The highest poverty rate was established in 2000. Over the past 10 years, most of the northern and Arctic territories have seen a trend of increasing poverty of the population. The distribution of the poor among the rural and urban population is analyzed. The analysis showed that in the absolute majority of subjects with extreme living conditions, the poverty level in rural areas is many times higher than the same indicator for urban residents. The influence of poverty on the economic availability of food has been revealed. An assessment of the causes of poverty in rural areas is given. It has been established that both in the whole country and in the regions of the North and the Arctic, the poor population spends the bulk of their expenses on food. A comparison of the consumption of food by urban and rural households showed that in rural areas the level of consumption of bread products, potatoes and sugar is significantly higher and such valuable products as fruits, meat and dairy products, eggs are consumed lower. Compared to developed countries, Russia spends 2-4 times more on food than consumer spending. The practical significance of the work is seen in the possibility of applying the results of the study in the development of measures to reduce the poverty level of the rural population. The direction of further research is related to the justification of priority areas for reducing rural poverty.
