The article substantiates the need to use new approaches to the notion of «economic policy», which in modern literature is the most common and constantly occurring definition. It is argued that it is more often used as a duty and transitory word, used for all cases of reasoning. Meanwhile, the logic of research, dictated by the course of emerging problems in the real system of economic relations, raises the need for its more active study on the agenda. It is shown that this is all the more important at the current stage of economic development, when additional scientific and practical material appears that requires its own reflection and assessment, which shows that with the notion of «economic policy», everything is not so simple. The purpose of the proposed article is formulated: a study of the category «economic policy», taking into account the application of new scientific material associated with the institutional theory of «agreements». The hypothesis of the research suggests that the effectiveness of institutionalism is due to its interdisci- plinary character and broad methodological possibility in the study of regional policy. The author's contribution, in this connection, can be qualified as the use of the «the- ory of agreements» in the characterization of economic policy, which allows us to re-formulate the concept of regional impact on a managed object. Conclusions of the article can be used as a scientific and methodological ba- sis in modernizing regional policy.
