The article is devoted to the impact of a new COVID-19 infection on the socio-economic and sustainable development of territories that are physically remote from a certain center. The idea of the study is based on the fact that achieving the goals of sustainable development of territories in the current situation of the COVID-19 pandemic becomes more difficult. This requires coordinated corrective actions by all state systems and society as a whole. The paper considers the possible impact of the pandemic on the development of Russian regions, due to quarantine and as a re sult of the decline in production. Research in this area is limited by the lack of information on the impact of this infection on slowing the development of remote regions. This requires a more in-depth study of this problem by various scientists and economists, more cumulative scientific contribution to achieve the best results of the development of peripheral territories in the current situation. Trends in the development of the Russian economy in the context of the coronavirus pandemic require the development of measures for a faster and painless way out of this situation. This is especially necessary for peripheral municipalities that do not have sufficient resource potential. The author concludes that it is necessary to develop peripheral territories within the framework of the concept of sustainable development and recommendations for the transition to the path of sustainable development are offered. Compliance with these recommendations when adapting them to a specific education will allow it to achieve sustainable development in the future and provide a decent standard of living for the population.
