The article is devoted to an analytical study of topical issues of building relationships between the border territories of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan. Building friendly and mutually beneficial relations between the border regions of these EAEU member states is the main vector for the development of their foreign economic activity. This is primarily due to the special geographical position of such regions and the underestimation of their potential. The article examines the regulatory framework for organizing cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Ka-zakhstan, reflects the need for its further development. It is noted that the specificity of interstate relations at the present stage is determined by a significant number of various factors that have the greatest impact on the relationship of the border territories of the two countries. Therefore, using a systematic approach, the authors grouped them, which made it possible to draw an objective conclusion about the main trends in their development and reveal the content of the priority areas of Russian-Kazakh cross-border cooperation at the present stage. During the study, the dynamics of the main eco-nomic indicators characterizing cross-border relations was analyzed; the emphasis was made on the fact that the rela-tionship between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan is based on a common history. The analysis made it possible to draw conclusions that for a number of positions of the commodity nomenclature of foreign economic activity, the Republic of Kazakhstan is the strategic partner of the Russian Federation. The results obtained as a consequence of this study can be used for inclusion in lectures and practical material for the training of specialists in relevant economic specialities, as well as for the elaboration of a strategy for the development of cooperation between the border areas of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan.
